I really appreciated reading this article. I loved almost all of the games made by Sierra (LSL, KQ, Phantasmagoria, Gabriel Knight series, and The Realm Online to name but a few) but the Space Quest series were by far and away my favourites.
I think the adventure game genre went downhill when Sierra started trying to make them into FPS style games. KQ8 and GK3 were examples where the gameplay was severely disrupted by such a clunky interface. Sierra should have stuck to point-n-click / parser interfaces for maximum enjoyment (and who knows, maybe Sierra may have survived to be more than the mere shell it is today).
