After a long time in which adventure games seem to have been played out, leaving many passionate gamers to fend for low-quality titles, a truly spectacular masterpiece suddenly appears from the mind of a single man—Norwegian game designer Ragnar Tornquist. With The Longest Journey, Tornquist has managed to create a story that is as immersive and captivating as a classic tale. The Longest Journey…

Congrats on a great review Davide. After having first played Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, I felt compelled to play "The Longest Journey" to learn about such characters as April Ryan, Crow, Klacks and others who reappear in Dreamfall. I agree with you that the game was brilliant considering the age of the game. Although the game engine has been improved for Dreamfall, the immersive story and exceptional characters will stand the test of time forever. While Dreamfall can be played as a stand-alone game, It is advisable to play "The Longest Journey" first. This is a must play game for all adventurers. I cannot wait for the third and final episode to come to fruition. Although April Ryan appears to die in Dreamfall, I am positive that she still lives and has a great part to play.

Excellent review. Quite simply this is the best story that has been in book, film, TV or computer/video game form in the past 20 years.

It is far more than an 'adventure game', just like the Wizard of Oz is more than a film, or the Grapes of Wrath just a book. It is, quite simply, an event.

Play this story and you will be spoilt for any other for a long time. It will please and disappoint in equal measure. Pleasure at the journey, but disappointment that there will not be another game like it with today's gaming market.

THE best adventure game - on any format - and one of the best stories of modern history - up there with Mary Poppins, Gone with the Wind and of course, The Wizard of Oz.

Shame that Dreamfall the follow-up totally let it down.

One of the best adventures ever, up there alongside Monkey Island 1 and Riven.

No, you're not the only one. Maybe you're too hard on the humour, nothing quite horrible in that aspect. Instead I would add generally poorly thought out puzzles and cliched, soap-operish, uninvolving story to your list. Still I'd say that in all its mediocrity the game is a passable time-killer. But I wouldn't really warn anybody from trying the game, because for some reason so many people fall in love with it.

So I'm the only one who found the dialog too long and droning, characters flat and without imagination, the attempts at humour the worst ever, the graphics rather 'smudged' looking and the lead character completely unlikeable?
