Gateway (also known as Frederik Pohl's Gateway) is the first game from Legend Entertainment I have played. Based on Pohl's famous Gateway Saga, the game occurs in the same Heechee universe from which the books are rooted. Highly imaginative and a pleasure to play, Legend Entertainment has become a game developer to be reckoned with since publishing this title. Gateway is underrated by many…

hi all, tuning in. love that this site is still up! what a great little snapshot of history.
re L.Mullen's comment - There's talk of a TV series! A much better idea than a movie, for an intrinsically episodic storyline...
Legend's best game was Mission Critical.
As for games capturing the essence of Pohl's Gateway, the best was (and still is) Starflight in 1986-7. After playing that, I was a little disappointed with this one. In particular the anti-Dan-Quayle jokes don't hold up well. (But it may get a pass, given that the original book was glaringly 1970s, down to the tape-recorders.)
I have a bug in my version. I purchased mine in 1992 on 5 1/4 disks. When I try to summon the robot in the armory, the game won't let me. I called tech support back then and they had a workaround. I can't remember what it was so I'm stuck again.
Gateway is my favorite Sci Fi book and someday I would love to see it turned into a movie. The special effects technoligy now exists to make it very realistic.
i fully agree with ur summary of gateway + i am glad that there are still a lot of people out there keeping this olg "gaming-gems" alive.
